About The Infants' Home Child & Family Services-Gorton House

Nestled within the lush, heritage-listed grounds of The Infants’ Home in Ashfield, Gorton House offers high-quality early education and care for children from birth to school age. One of three co-located centres on site, Gorton House provides a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow through play and connection with nature.

As part of The Infants’ Home—a not-for-profit organisation championing children’s rights and social justice since 1874—Gorton House is committed to supporting every child to thrive. Our experienced and qualified educators design play-based learning programs tailored to each child’s interests and developmental needs.

We also offer integrated support for children with additional needs or experiencing vulnerabilities. Our team includes Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists who work alongside educators to deliver early intervention and specialist care within the centre.

In the year before school, all children participate in our comprehensive transition-to-school program, helping them build the confidence and skills they need for a successful start to formal education.

At Gorton House, we nurture each child’s development—cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language—through curiosity-driven learning and meaningful relationships.

This place is magic! It was important to me to find a non for profit centre knowing all the profit is poured back into making the education top quality. There are regular free parent education programs such as circle of security, tuning into kids, baby bonding which are evidence based approaches to support children in their home environment and give parents the confidence and tools to naviagte the ever changing role of parenthood. The new outdoor classroom is a spectacular space for children to explore and connect with nature. I am so excited for my two boys to access the vast grounds, climb trees, tackle new apparatus and run on massive lawns. This will open up so many learning experiences especially from a gross motor and coordination angle. The chef uses onsite herbs, vegetables and fruits grown for children to explore and watch. My children eat such nutritious meals fueling their learning. My eldest is about to access a SoccerJoeys program next term which he is so excited for. The free playgroups have also been appreciated with the lead, Bec being so incredible with the kids never failing to make them smile and giggle. Educators here foster connection and build emotionally resilient children preparing them and setting them up for future success. The Infants' home are a gold standard service providing a unique model of care with an integrated allied health team of a child and family education support officer, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists that run collaborative groups with educators boosting the children's skills and supporting children to maximise their full potential. The school readiness groups are excellent. As a parent who also works at the infants' home I was so sure this space was the place I wanted my own young children to learn in. Knowing the educators on a professional level and seeing the level of nurturing care they provide filled me with certainty that my two boys would flourish and blossom at the infants' home which they are. The infants' home is more than a non profit childcare centre. It is a community and extended family.
